McClusky 4H Barrel Race Continues to Grow
Submitted by Sarah Crimmins
Saturday, May 31st the annual McClusky Sheridan County 4-H Council barrel race was held out at the 4-H Arena at Hoffer Lake. The event was a "double header", which means two different races held in one day. The different divisions included: Peewee, Open, and Youth. Local participants in the event included Joelyn Strobel, Sydney Crimmins, and Megan Hertz in the PeeWee division, Alex Naser in the Youth, and Sarah Crimmins in the Open division. What a beautiful day Saturday was for a wonderful day of barrel racing. The arena was a bit wet from the rain Thursday and Friday, but the arena dried out to make for some excellent ground for the horses! We had barrel racers all the way from South Dakota to the Canadian Border.
We ran over 110 runs and paid out nearly $4,000 in winnings!! Many contestants came from NBHA ND District 4; Minot, Bottineau, and Denhoff areas, along with the first race being co-sanctioned with NBHA ND District 3 with contestants coming from Bismarck area. In the first jackpot there were 52 Open riders, 13 Youth, and 8 Peewees. In the second jackpot there were 46 Open riders, 12 Youth, and 7 Peewees.
