Coyotes 72-Cossacks 63 OT thriller

The Sheridan County Coyotes advanced to the Region 5 Tournament in Mandan on Feb. 23 as the fourth seed with a 72-63 over time win against the Max Cossacks. The Coyotes will play either Standing Rock or New Salem. Karissa Erdmann was selected for the All District 10 team and Neilie Dockter was selected to the All Tournament team. Kala Horst of Underwood was named the Senior Player of the Year for District 10. Toni Cottingham of Underwood and Mike Balaban of Max were selected as Co-coaches of the Year for District 10. The Coyotes didn’t take the easy road to the region tournament as they were defeated by the Underwood Comets in the first round, 66-33. The Coyotes stayed with the Comets the first quarter, trailing 10-6. The second quarter, the Coyotes traded buckets with Comets and trailed 14-10 at the 5:36 mark. The Comets then blew past the Coyotes with a 17-0 run and took a 33-10 half-time lead. The Coyotes never recovered from the Comets’ blitz.
