Cougars win in final numbers game

The numbers don’t lie – unless they do.
Typically the team that puts up the bigger offensive numbers will win the game, but Friday night’s gave pitting the Central McLean Cougars against the home-team Grant County-Flasher, it was the Bulldogs that picked up more offensive yards.
But it was the Cougars that picked up more points. They won the game by the score of 28-22, scoring three times with their ground game and once in the air.
The Cougars used some good field position following turnovers the second half to set up a couple scores, thus reducing the number of yards needed to score, then gave up a couple big plays late in the game on the way to a GCF score, which also increased the Bulldogs’ numbers.
Central McLean racked up 189 total yards for the game, while Grant County-Flasher picked up 341, including 225 rushing yards.
“We started out kind of slow, but the second half the guys came out and played well,” commented Central McLean Co-Coach. “We came to play the second half – it was almost like we flipped a switch and we were ready to play.”
The Cougars won’t be able to wait until the second half to start to play with intensity this Friday when they host Mott-Regent in another must-win game if they want to stay in playoff contention.
