Cougars in battle for Region six baseball title

By Suzanne Werre

Tuesday morning, Central McLean baseball coach Alex Jangula wasn’t ready to start celebrating and packing for state yet, despite having notched three straight wins on their way to Tuesday’s Region 6 championship game with Surrey.

"It’s in our hands," said Jangula, as he looked toward playing Surrey in at least one more tournament game.

"If we win, it’s over," said Jangula, and the Cougars are the Region 6 champs and will be playing at state in Fargo next week.

If they lose (which by publication of the News will have been determined), they’ll be playing Surrey again Thursday at 5 p.m.

The Cougars, found themselves in the title match on the arms of pitchers Hunter Jacobs and Blake Anderson, who picked up Monday’s tournament wins.

The Cougars first had to earn their way into the tournament by winning the play-in game last Thursday against Max.

The Cougars’ Trapper Jacobs picked up the win from the hill, with Blake Anderson coming in for the save as Central McLean ousted Max by the score of 6-4.

The Cougars didn’t play their best game against Max, admitted Jangula, but it was a win.

"Trapper pitched well," he said. "We made just enough plays to get the win and make it into regionals."
