Cougars drop baseball openers

The Central McLean Cougars lost both of their season-opening games this past Saturday, but Cougar Head Coach Alex Jangula was feeling pretty optimistic.
“We proved we can compete with most teams in the state, so that’s good,” said Jangula.
The Comets lost their season opener to Wahpeton by the score of 5-2 at Bismarck, then lost a barn-burner to host Shiloh Christian, going an extra inning before falling by the score of 4-3.
Pitcher Parker Heger, who came in as relief in the final inning, may have taken the loss in the books, but Jangula says it was a coaching error.
“I probably made a mistake,” Jangula said. “I pitched Bo (Anderson), and that’s just a big jump for a seventh-grader – I’ll learn from that.”
Anderson had come in to relieve starting pitcher Trapper Jacobs after 5-2/3 innings when the Cougars were up 3-0. The Skyhawks were able to capitalize on the rookie pitcher, knotting the game at three and forcing an extra inning before taking the win.
