The Cougars will be taking on the Surrey Mustangs this Saturday afternoon in 9-man playoff action after falling to region champion Divide County this past Friday in Crosby. The top-ranked Divide County proved how it has earned its number one ranking, scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter to rumble past the Cougars by the score of 64-26. The loss puts the Cougars at 7-2 going into the playoffs while Divide County remains undefeated.
Central McLean’s Jacob Ruff did his best to keep the Cougars in the hunt, scoring four times in the first half, including a 64-yard run and a 90-yard kickoff return in the first quarter. The Cougars trailed just 30-26 following a Ruff 7-yard score on a pass from quarterback Aaron Morman late in the second quarter, but the Maroons’ Isaac Jacobs would strike one more time, hauling in an 87-yard score on the ensuing kickoff.
“The first half was just some excellent football, both teams; it was back and forth,” commented Cougar coach Kevin Dockter.
