The Central McLean Cougars fast-pitch softball team split in action on the softball field this past week, pummeling Heart River by the score of 17-4 before falling to Beulah Thursday night.

Thursday’s outing at Beulah was a high-scoring battle, with the Cougars coming out on top, despite giving up seven runs in the second inning.

It helped that the Cougars started with eight runs of their own in the first inning.

"The game turned into a shootout as both pitchers struggled and gave up big innings," commented CM coach Kyle Hunt.

"It was good to see us hit the ball better, but we still can’t be given up 7 runs in one inning.

"On the flip side, it was good to see us pick up a win and give us a little confidence moving forward this year," said Hunt.

Smalls took the win on the hill. Danielle Halstead paced the team at the plate, going 3-for-5 while swatting two doubles. Trista Crimmins was 5-for-7, and Sage Longtin was 4-for-5 at the plate.
