The Turtle Lake-Mercer Mc-Clusky Trojans girls team suffered a 52-30 loss to the Velva Aggie in the first game of the season.
Kim Tkach led the Trojans with 10 points. Tasha Heisler led the Aggies with 12 points.
Jacy Hausauer got the Trojans on the board first with a bucket, followed by a pair of free throws from both Jamiee White Bear and Sabrina Rust to put the Trojans up 6-5.
A bucket from White Bear gave the Trojans a 10-7 lead at the 1:06 mark. The Aggies cut the Trojans’ lead to 10-9 with a bucket from Tasha Heisler to end the first quarter.
The Trojans handled the Aggies’ pressure defense until midway through the second quarter. The Trojans took a 17-16 after a White Bear free throw; then the Aggies scored eight unanswered points to take a 24-17 lead at the 3:32 mark.
A bucket from Kim Tkach and a free throw from Hausauer cut the Aggies’ lead to 24-20. The Aggies went up 28-20 after buckets from Katelyn Sandy and Rachel Pfenning.
Tkach drove base line and scored with 21 seconds left and made the half-time score 28-22 Aggies.
The third quarter, the Trojans hit a scoring drought and the Aggies scored 14 unanswered points and went up 42-22. The Trojans only points of the third quarter came at the 37-second mark when White Bear scored on a breakaway.
The Trojans scored the first four points of the fourth quarter when Tkach scored on a jumper in the paint and with Hausauer’s base line drive. That was as close as the Trojans could get as the Aggies scored the last nine points of the game and won, 52-30.
