Aaargh – Cougars hand Pirates grid loss

By Suzanne Werre
The Central McLean Cougars notched their first win of the 2016 gridiron season with a sound 38-16 drubbing of home-standing Tioga Pirates Friday night.
Typically, rushing for 222 yards would be commendable for a football team, but Central McLean running back Blake Anderson rushed for 222 yards by himself (with the help of plenty of blocking), scoring two touchdowns for the Cougars – one of the a 90-yard jaunt in the second quarter.
Anderson started the scoring for the Cougars with a short trip to the end zone from seven yards out in the first stanza.
His long haul came in the second quarter when he took the ball nearly end-to-end on his 90-yard scamper to give the Cougars a 16-0 edge following the two two-point conversions. The first came when Trapper Jacobs connected with Zach Cottingham for a PAT, and the second was a Cottingham trip to the end zone.
