JANUARY
With a long history of development in the background, the state legislature unanimously approved a re-distribution of property taxes for rural electric utility cooperatives (RECs) to fall in line with the other investor-owned utility companies.
The Washburn Cardinals defeated the TL-M-M Trojans, 58-39, in the championship game of the McLean County Invitational Tournament in Underwood.
Alan Hornbacher is tackling a new frontline battle in rebuilding a retail business in Drake, close to his farm home near Anamoose. He notes that the Marine Corps gives him support in his determination to succeed in this new venture, Hornbacher’s Bar and Grill, quoting, “The difficult we do right away; the impossible takes a bit longer.”
With the eyes of the community watching, the repair to the heavily fire-damaged Co-op Elevator is keeping on schedule. Manager Brian Larson stated that the last time he spoke with Northern Grain Construction and Design out of Clara City, MN, they were still on Schedule with usable premises on March 30, 2011 and completed by the next month on April 30.
FEBRUARY
When you hear “flying saucers,” you might smile. You may envision little green men and revolving window-adorned spinning disks. You might have already decided this is too far-fetched to be worth any further attention.
