Work camp arrives quietly into McClusky

With little more than the sounds of trucks pulling into the southeast corner of the town, Target Logistics set up camp for Michels workers on Thursday, Aug 29. The trucks rolled in steadily from McHenry, where the work crew had departed on their work shifts early in the morning. By the end of the day, the same workers returned to the McClusky location and their “home away from home” in Target lodging.
Information on the work crew, the housing facilities and the project was obtained from reference material provided by the companies and from website information directly connected to these references. The material was edited for clarity and brevity.
The Minnkota Grand Forks to Center project is approximately 250 miles of new, high voltage (345-kV) AC transmission line from the existing Center 345-kV substation at the Milton R. Young Station located about 4.5 miles southeast of the town of Center, N.D., in Oliver County.
The line continues across North Dakota to the existing Prairie substation located on the western boundary of the city of Grand Forks, N.D., in Grand Forks County.
The completed line will enable the transmission of energy from the existing Young 2 power station directly to the Minnkota’s service territory and to Minnkota’s cooperative members.
The majority of the line is being constructed with self-supported mono-pole tubular steel structures. Typical structures are approximately 140 feet high and placed approximately 1,000 feet apart. The typical right of way (ROW) is 150 feet wide.
