Weather brings smiles to Midsummer Fest activities
Local community leader suffers heart attack

The day started warm and quiet, with the Northland Run/Walk the first event. Winners of Northland Community Health Center’s 5K were (first place) Kevin Franck (18:09); (second place) Kendra Franck (21:05); and (third place) Tyler Franck (22.04).
The children’s parade started the action on Main Street. The children’s parade results were not available at press time and will run in a later issue.
The big parade followed with the Dragon-themed parade entry of the Class of 1987 bringing in the first place win. They were followed by North Country Bank in second and the Northland Health Center float third. Hats, candy and other treats littered the streets, scooped up by young and old alike. One child earned $10 for a cap for someone who really needed sunshade gear.
After the parade, the crowd followed the breeze-supported smells of food cooking in the city park. There, the merchants served free hot dogs, chips and drinks, while several others served treats for price or donation, as well as Grace Lutheran’s annual Taco in a Bag, a bargain of a meal at $4.50.
Music was provided by the Piper duo from Denhoff, Michael and Janneen, along with Myron Morris and the “Three Amigos” which includes the Wolt children, Michael and Elisa.
Around the park were vendors of many items: fresh bread, jars of sauce, candy bars, homemade donuts, handmade scarves and potholders, art work, sunglasses, temporary tattoos, games, ice cream cones, crocheted flip flops and many other items.
The bed races started a bit late and are reported separately.
