Trojans take two from Sioux

The Trojans bested the Solen Sioux in both games of the Region 5 double-header Friday night on the Trojans’ home court. The girls won in a nail biter, 44-42, on an almost last second shot from Sophie Sparrow and the boys outscored the Sioux 16-5 in the fourth quarter to win 51-41.
Mackenzie Holt was the top scorer for the Trojans with 14 points; Sophie Sparrow also scored in double figures with 13. Astacia Conica led the Sioux with 18 points.
The Trojans scored the first eight points of the game and extended their lead to 13-3 after a triple from Mackenzie Holt and a deuce from Ashley Bergquist. A couple of triples from the Sioux, with less than a minute left in the quarter, cut the Trojans’ lead to 13-9 at the end of one.
A 4-0 run for the Sioux tied the game at 13 to start the second quarter. Back-to-back bucket from Ashley Bergquist mid quarter put the Trojans up, 17-13.
A bucket from Sophie Sparrow at the 2:08 mark put the Trojans up, 22-17, but back-to-back buckets from Josie White Eagle cut the Trojans’ lead to 22-21 at the half time break.
