Tractor and Truck show report

Lane Alm, main promoter of this year’s tractor and truck show provided the following information from their event.
Main Street South was the scene for the Prony brake action for June 25. The blue Prony brake is owned by Jerry and Jane Christiansen, who came all the way from Casselton, ND. The Prony brake was built by the Christiansen’s and is used to measure horsepower and torque of tractors. Prony breaks were used a lot to help break in freshly rebuilt engines as well as fine-tune carburetors under a steady load.
A formal explanation states, “A dynamometer is a device used for measuring the power transmitted by a rotating shaft. The Prony Brake is an
early dynamometer is composed of brake blocks that press against the rotating wheel attached to the motor.
