There were several go-aheads for planned SCiPY projects, one a continuation of their Bingo gaming event on Saturday nights. The other was permission, liability issues resolved first, for a snow fun day event on Main Street on February 27 at 2 p.m.
The snow day event is dependent upon enough snow still being on the ground for the event to happen, which seems to be highly likely at this time. A change from the skating rink location, which went unfilled and unused this year, will be replaced with a slide down the hill on south Main Street and a stop for hot cocoa and treats at the former day care center belonging to Bert Voegele.
Sheriff Trent Naser stated he had been approached on the issue but referred the SCiPY organization to the city as his department doesn’t have the authority to grant such use. He said they would not be offering free service or police or traffic control for the event. He suggested the city ask the city’s attorney for an answer to any possible liability issue. The city council directed the City Auditor Andrea Kluck to do so.
A question on cleaning the snow from the driveway of the ambulance meeting also arose. Councilman Fritz Hirschkorn stated that it was decided a long time previous, by other councils, that the city hall, courthouse front access, ambulance entrances and the school would be helped to keep their areas open and clear of snow.
The council members will advise city maintenance to clear snow on a regular basis at the ambulance building. The school generally handles their own clearing but the city will do if they request this, said Hirschkorn.
A report from the Sheridan EDC prompted a question as to what they are doing with the tax money (40 percent) that they receive from general sales tax revenue. Currently the organization has more than $29,000 on deposit. A suggestion was made as to have them (SCEDC) direct a donation to the swimming pool to help with the repair expenses for the past year.
