St. John 100th Anniversary Celebration

“Sharing the Light of Christ; bringing strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow” was the theme of St. John’s Lutheran Church 100th Anniversary celebration held on June 12th and 13th. About 200 people attended during the two days, according to the guest book registration.
The LYF (Lutheran Youth Fellowship) prepared “yummy” homemade ice cream that was served with homemade toppings and with soda pop for floats on Saturday afternoon during registration and fellowship.
A supper of shredded BBQ beef sandwiches, green bean casserole and macaroni salad was prepared and served at 5:45 p.m. by Circle (1) LWML (Lutheran Women of the Missionary League) on Friday.
Vesper Services were held at 7 p.m. with Liturgy lead by Pastor Dean Hartley, Underwood, who is currently St. John’s vacancy pastor. The sermon “Anchored in Christ” was conducted by Pastor Arie Bertsch, Minot, who formerly served as Pastor at St. John’s in 1998-2001. Favorite hymns sung during Vesper services were “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” and “By Grace I’m Saved.” One of the beautiful anniversary cakes was served after Vesper services followed by more fellowship. The weather was perfect for displaying fireworks at dusk and was enjoyed by guests of all ages.
The Sunday morning worship service was held at 10 a.m. with Pastor Alan Werth, Wahpeton, officiating. The sermon “Heirlooms” was taken from the text John 14:15-26: “Jesus promises His Holy Spirit to those who keep His Word.” Favorite hymns sung during service were “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” ”God’s Word is Our Great Heritage,” and “Onward Christian Soldiers.” Pastor Werth served St. John’s as vicar and pastor from 1992-1997.
