Spring Fling brings Tom Kalb’s garden expertise to 27 women
By ALLAN TNKER
McClusky City Community Room tables held twenty-seven women on May 4, ready to hear Tom Kalb bring the best in gardening news and
advice. Also presenting portions of the evening’s entertainment were Sarah Crimmins, Sheridan County Extension Agent, Darci Gahner, Sheridan County Soil Conservation District manager, and Julie Demke. Kalb took the group back to the times of Buffalo Bird Woman and the gardening skills of the Hidatsa tribe, passed on through many centuries. The Three Sisters of every garden, winter squash, maize (corn) and climbing beans, provided information on how vital nutrition was grown and preserved to feed those who lived on the prairie through the winter and non-growing months.
