Sports Co-op reviews schedule and policy issues
By ALLAN TINKER
With several items to discuss, the Underwood-Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky sports co-op held a regular meeting on March 24, a Thursday, at the TL-M School ITV room. 12 members from the schools were present. Supt. Peltier led the meeting that was delayed by a previously scheduled meeting conflict for the McClusky participants.
The group decided to rotate the officers and semi-annual meeting dates on a yearly basis for the participating schools. School representatives are board member, with a president, vice-president and secretary for one-year terms.
The next meeting, rotating alphabetically, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, will be held at 7 p.m. at McClusky School. The meeting was set for after the state volleyball and football tournaments are over. The other meeting will be set later to accommodate the spring sports schedule completion dates.
Discussion on the random drug testing policy was held, with 100 percent agreement needed. There was no decision made at this point as the boards were either not in agreement with the policy or the policy had not been discussed with each individual board.
Underwood and Turtle-Lake Mercer will continue their own schedules for girls and boys junior high basketball games, due to the high numbers of participants at each school currently. When the numbers change the issue will be re-addressed. This allows the athletes the maximum benefit of practices and playing time.
