Spaghetti, conversation, and treats to carry home
By ALLAN TINKER
The volunteers baked and stirred, bringing 125 or more treats for the bake sale. The customers were lining the street by St. John’s Lutheran Church’s front door by the 5 p.m. opening time. Inside the happy faces of check-out veterans Dorothy Krueger and Rachel Link collected bake good sales and free will donations for the meal. Inside the double doors were tables filled but carefully remembering social distance politeness, were the visitors, chewing spaghettiand chewing fat, so to speak, in conversations both serious and casual. The end
count was one hundred or so, perhaps a few more. Workers moved around, serving food, filling pans, serving coffee and, at the dessert end, a huge scoop of ice cream.
