September Smash provides autumn fun for community

A train ran through the streets of Goodrich on Saturday, Sept. 14. It held nearly a full load of passengers on its trips up and down the streets, touring outside the park, through the center of town, past the post office and returning to the school area home station. It was driven by Dave Threadgold. The riders were small children, enthralled by the ride through fall-colored trees, past grandparents and their own homes in a specially designed train.
The train was a part of September Smash, the several-years-running fall craft event that is held in the Goodrich School gymnasium each year. This year’s chairman was Linda Winter.
The gymnasium was again full of booths, some of which were newcomers to the event, somewhat outbalanced the “regulars.”
Regulars included the booths of Hazel Erdmann’s embroidery, the Baptist Church Bake Sale, Renada and Jim Hill’s Cozy Crafts sewed items; Gayle Martin’s stuffed pillows, Jenell Olson’s Tupperware, Marcie Gunsch and Tastefully Simple products; Earleen Miller and her handmade home specialty items; Heidi Quinn and Lia Sophia jewelry, Connie Loen and “Scentsy”; and Lois Rott’s homemade kuchen; Janice Schock’s tatting; and the Harvester Restaurant serving food, though under new ownership and management: Brian Fitz and Andrea Deseth.
