Schindler to partly retire

With an eye to having more time for her family and the "25 years of things on the back burner," DeEtta Schindler is retiring from part of her duties for North Country Bank in McClusky. She will continue to work two days a week at the branch office in Mercer. Schindler started with North Country, then First National Bank of McClusky, 25 years ago as a teller. She stated that the merger was the hardest part of her entire working career at the bank. "Everything changed on the whole paper line. All the slips had to be changed to the new name. Employee changes during that time only added to the adjustments everyone had to make," she stated. The customers didn’t seem to notice much besides the name change, they had more difficulty accepting the check imaging procedure adoption before that time, added Schindler. That procedure took away the returned checks that many customers were used to using and replaced them with electronic copies of the checks. "There has never been a day I haven’t enjoyed going to work! I totally enjoyed working with the people and fellow workers. I got to know so many people who had just been names before when I started in Mercer three years ago. It will be good to be able to work two days a week there," she added. The Mercer office does not have a computer, she revealed, so all of the data from those two days is entered through the McClusky office. Everyone still gets the same service, but the computer entries are done later. "It is just a little harder when the two banks aren’t on the same technological level," she said.
