Roping for a cure in the park

Forty would-be cowboys and cowgirls tried their hand at roping in the McClusky city park during the Midsummer Fest.
This is the second year the Kevin Heinle family has held the "Roping for a Cure" event to raise money for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). JDRF supports research and provides education and support for those who suffer from juvenile diabetes.
Heinle, a former McClusky resident and accomplished horse trainer, died at age 35 from the disease.
The competitors were divided into four age groups and competed to see who could rope a "dummy" steer, complete with horns, the most times.
The winners were: 5 and under – Brooklyn Lauer; 6-9 – Daphne Lauer; 10-12 – Frank Crimmins; 13 and older – Chase Bren.
The three youngest ropers won a roping dummy and the oldest won a roping bag and gift certificate.
A silent auction was held in conjunction with the event and raised $465 dollars. Money was also received through donations so a total of $1,100 will be donated to JDRF.
