Pool opening situation improves

By ALLAN TINKER
With critical workers stepping up for certification and employment at the Kathy Davis Memorial Pool, the possibility of being open for summer greatly improved. Amber Scheurer agreed to sign up as manager, with backup assistance from head lifeguard Jayce Lauer and her lifeguard certification being approved. Present to conduct park board business was Clerk Shirley Murray, possible clerk replacement Tanya Mueller, President Rhonda Meckle and members Tracy Stein, Kristee Tanner and Larry Gessner. Guests included Sue
Ebach. Before the pool business, a motion to have Eric’s Electric check the marquee bulletin board at the Heart Park passed, 4-0. The materials for the replacement shed, 8X8X8-feet, Ocean Blue metal siding, wood materials and a 36” door, was approved, 4-0. The labor will be provided by the vocational Ag students and FFA members under the direction
of Michael Axt. The cost approved for the materials, no labor, was $2,041. Interviews began with the pool manager position. Amber Scheurer had never worked at the pool in her
high school years as there was, as she stated, “A long line of applicants for the jobs, so I did not apply.” She will need to complete lifeguard certification before starting duty. She and
others present stated, “I don’t want to see the pool close, as it is likely never to open again.”
