New signs, bad news dominate local actions
By ALLAN TINKER
Between the McClusky Merchants Association and McClusky Job Development Authority decisions, the scene for the year changed, both literally and figuratively.
First is the good news, the grantfunded sign project that JDA opened two years or so ago, has added several new signs to the line on the north side of the former Salzer/Thiele Lumber Company building along Highway 200. The bright signs give direction and information for those seeking services or supplies within the town. The signs represent the varied talents and skills among residents of the area, complete with colorful representations of their business entity. The Merchants Association had sadder news. Midsummer Fest was canceled due to lack of time to plan the event in case the COVID-19 restrictions happen to be lifted for large gatherings any time before the end of June. Entities that wish to hold ball games or other allowable entertainment at that time are encouraged to do so on their own. Jeff Martwick, president, and Brandon Lauer, vice-president, were firm in making people and their
safety the first consideration in view of the present health concerns across the state. JDA also received information that the North Dakota Street Rod Association had cancelled all of their scheduled events for 2020, which included the August 1 show in McClusky. All three organizations emphasized personal safety for those who attend these events as first priority.
