New mechanic likes to learn new skills
BY ALLAN TINKER
Hailing from the neighboring state of Minnesota, Alan Sadlo is the newest mechanic at Mechanics Plus in McClusky. He learned his trade working on farm and shop projects with his father and grandfather and at Cuyuna Country Auto Service in Cuyuna, located in central Minnesota near Crosby. The town lies in the Cuyuna Range, an iron range to the southwest of the Mesabi Range, largely within Crow Wing County.
He was born and raised in Staples, Minnesota on the homestead farm of the Sadlo family, where they raised beef cattle. His father, Sam, was also a carpenter, sharing those skills with Alan as well. Mother Cathy was a bus driver for the school. His grandfather had been a farmer as well. Sadlo likes learning to do things, good at working with his hands at mechanics and carpentry. He also spent four years milking 62 Holstein and Jersey cows from 5 p.m. until done, about 3½ hours a night. He had to drop out of FFA as the meetings were at 5:30 p.m. and he was busy milking every night at that time. He also chopped feed and did other farm chores.
