Neuharth holds record for Sheridan elected public service

Robert Neuharth didn’t start out to set a record, but he did. He holds the title, 41 years, as the longest serving elected official in Sheridan County, so far.
He also served as a McClusky City Auditor for 12 years, yielding the job to Hannelore Davis, who retired just two years ago.
Neuharth worked with deputies Betty Nording Bold and his sister Gladys Neuharth. His sister became disabled and Shirley Murray, the current auditor, became his deputy.
During the time he served, from April of 1949 to April of 1990, he recalled good times. “The Canal years (referring to the building of the McClusky Canal) brought a lot of extra things with the county involvement with roads. It was normal bookkeeping, but lots more of it. The mill levies were small back then, he noted. When I left, I left.” he smiled.
