Ms Becky’s opens in McClusky

With a quick change of hands, the drive-in along Highway 200 in McClusky went from being Ms. J’s (Theresa Jorgenson) to Ms. Becky’s. The change happened officially on August 8th.
“We needed a job to keep busy and one that worked with our travel schedule to Arizona for the winter,” co-owner Becky Stein stated.
She, and husband Theobald (Heinie) sold their herd of cows last year and were encouraged by family to purchase the drive-in. “They told us it was ‘right up our alley,’” the couple grinned.
“Very busy” is how Becky described their first weeks of business. “We like the people contact and will expand the seating area. We are also open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with just a few menu changes coming next year: some sandwiches and salads. Right now we have evening specials such as roast beef, lasagna or meatballs, and noon specials of sandwich selections.”
Another thing the couple intends to do is install central air conditioning. “The other day when it was so hot and humid, I actually felt sorry for the ice cream machines,” smiled Becky, “the machines were working so hard.”
The couple also intends to remain open later in the year with their food service as there are “quite a bit” of construction project workers in the area, as well as hunters that will be arriving for fall sporting.
“Those construction guys work nearly every day and we will be open seven days a week. We hope the weather will allow us to stay open until the end of October,” Becky added.
Heinie, a former city council member for McClusky and long-time farmer and rancher, states that they will be looking for help next year as eleven hour days for seven days a week would be too much for them, no matter how much they enjoy the work and the people.
Becky stated she hoped that they would be able to offer youth some good working hours, with a promise for workers that they wouldn’t be alone in the “really busy” hours.
