Midsummer Centennial celebration hosts large crowd

The crowd was diverse and choosey!
They came to see tractors and eat barbecued ribs. They wanted to watch beds race, kids swim, hear people visit, and the ATV’s and pickups roar over Prophet’s Mountain range. They wanted some gospel music and a little swing, too. A few wanted to reunite with old classmates and friends. In a nutshell, they more or less wanted it all. They got that, and fireworks on Friday night after the softball game!
Some came early and stayed late. Others had to mix their days of fun with some serious haying or a job that called them away. Everyone, it seemed, ate. They ate Grace Lutheran Church out of Tacos in a Bag, all the hotdogs from the Chess Club, the Centennial Cake at the Courthouse, and most of the food in between. It was a good day on Saturday for eating.
Those who wanted to be entertained found it in the big parade with entries competing for “big bucks”: first, second and third place prize money. They were either spectators or parade participants. There was enough candy thrown out of parade vehicles to last the kids until Halloween. Some of the adults did all right, too.
From the air-filled Dragon to the live horses, from Dorothy and Toto to the drug prevention float, they brought out their creativity and tried for the money. Three entries won in each parade The Big Parade winners were first place, Union Grill; second Place, Richard Brackett; third Place, Class of 1969.
The Kiddie Parade showed an increase in participants, too, no doubt also to the idea of a few bucks that one wouldn’t have to talk out of Mom or Dad. Kiddie Parade winners were:
First place: Lindsey and Cole Abrahamson, children of Tom and Kayla Abrahamson.
Second place: Sheridan Animal Hospital, Alex and Kaleigh Naser and Alexandria Schilling.
