Memory Lane spurs reliving history

“I read with interest the 50-year-old account of a still discovered near the Co-Op Elevator. Here it is, 50 years later and I’m answering the request for further information be forwarded to the Gazette Office... “Two weeks ago, I gave up a little duck-hunting time to do
some genealogical research at the Courthouse. I was specifically trying to pinpoint the exact location where my Great Grandparents John
Hieb Jr. and Christina née Bentz lived. I have the city map of McClusky extracted from the 1914 Ogle Sheridan County atlas, as well as
a copy of the 1940 Federal Census with their listing. It shows them to be in “Ward 2, Arneson’s Add. Block -2. “ I thought it would be a simple matter to look up the property in this block at the recorder’s office: Wrong. No record existed for John Hieb Jr. in McClusky. A recheck of the Census indicated that both (adjacent) households of John Hieb and his son-in-law Gust Dockter were shown as “rented”.
