McClusky School District explores pre-school options

The McClusky School Board members considered options for a pre-school program that ranged from one per week, to full time, to two days cooperative agreement with Lonetree Special Education Unit.
Supt. Kelm noted that there will likely be no after-school program next year and that might help some funds become available. The projected enrollment in classes, according to current assessments of children in the school district and obvious signs of future generations are: 2010, 2; 2011-2012, 7; 2012-2013, 8; 2013-2914, 4; 2014-2015, 5; 2015-2016, 6.
Current Ag Instructor Michael Axt presented at request for a 12 month contract to replace his current 11-month contract. He presented a calendar of the work the previous summer, which allowed only 1 week of actual absence from teaching responsibilities or presence at the school or other Ag or FFA events. He noted that his salary is below that of the average for ND Ag teachers. He also mentioned the extended duties with the planned garden for Ag students and the Fair activities, as well as possibly participating in the local Farmers Market this year.
The request was approved.
The Board also approved the agreement with the TL-M School for the Trojans Sports Co-op for Boys Basketball (9-12); Girls Basketball (9-12) and Girls Volleyball (7-12). The Junior High teams are already in a cooperative with the Central McLean Cougars.
Co-op items worth noting:
*There will be guilt by association for alcohol, drug and tobacco violations for players. There is no summer alcohol, drug and tobacco policy.
*Eligibility runs from Wednesday to Wednesday, with the grades check done on Monday. This allows the coach to have a player compete on Monday and Wednesday that will then be ineligible from Wed. to Wed. if his or her grades are inadequate. It is the same policy that TL-M uses now and a change from previous McClusky policy.
