McClusky Midsummer Fest held host of things to do
It was Midsummer Fest time: July 16 and 17.
There were the softball game, fireworks, reunion suppers, dance on Main Street, and the tractor trek on Friday. Some people were putting the finishing touches, (well some were just getting started) on their parade floats and other entries. It was busy, hurry, get ready all over town.
The tractor trek was deemed a success, with a lower turnout for the area celebration, but the County Centennial birthday Tractor Trek had set a tough act to follow. The Trek was again organized by Commissioner Howard Erdmann. Everyone enjoyed watching the event, and the participants stated they enjoyed the drive in great weather, also.
The main day of the event, Saturday, started with the Northland Health Center walk, with people circling the city on foot. Some were running; some were breathing hard; some were enjoying the fresh, clean air of the city.
The kiddies parade was full of displays that showed some attention to preparation. There were balloons, tricycles, wagons and cute kids in cute costumes. They waved and were waved at back. Everyone enjoyed the event.
The big parade, coordinated by the McClusky Lions Club, was well organized and had some good displays from Turtle Lake to help the local Legion put on their lead in the event. Clyde Nelson a member of the ND Military Vehicle Preservation Association with a restored l969 Military Wrecker (M-816) and John as passenger Larson were in the parade. Also from TL was Dennis Sundby, also a member of the ND Military Vehicle Preservation Association. Sundby was driver of a restored l943 Military Half-track, complete with four semi-automatic machine guns. At the machine gun was McClusky Legion member Dale Jorgenson. The McClusky Legion led the parade with the display of colors.
