McClusky Midsummer Fest endures weather challenges

On July 14, Sheridan County Achievement Days Static Exhibits and Family Community and Education (FCE) Cultural Arts Fair with Swedish weaving and Dutch Oven cooking were enjoyed by many visitors at the Hoffer Lake 4-H building.
The baked bean contest was won by Phyllis Helm. And her bean entry was enjoyed at the community supper.
The day before, July 13, many enjoyed the horse events at the arena located to the east of the building.
On Friday the co-ed softball game played to a small but enthusiastic crowd. It was red team against blue team, and the blue team won.
About fifty people attended the dance at the fire hall, and danced to Mo Zhust Media DJ Cory Wardner “DJ Inkster.”
When it drew dark, a fireworks display by Skeye Illuminations lit up the ball diamond and the elementary playground. The display was coordinated by Stewart Merritt of Hannover, ND using “shooting software.”
Pepping things up a bit, at least for City Maintenance person Steve Murray was the early Friday storm that resulted in the loss of a huge tree south of City Hall. It made for extra work but was cut up and hauled away by midday. It appeared the tree was hit by lightning, said Murray. Others stated they heard the huge crash during the early morning hours. No one was injured in the incident.
