McClusky fine tunes co-op wish list

After a joint sports committee meeting on Oct. 26, between McClusky and Turtle Lake-Mercer School Districts, the McClusky full board met on Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. at the high school home economics room. The special meeting was to discuss issues pertaining to items for the planned co-op agreements that will join the other sports teams between the two schools. Not included would be any teams currently within another co-op agreement but the plan would be adopted to suit those teams when the time is appropriate.
Among things proposed is the agreement that joining with Turtle Lake-Mercer would result in a team name of the Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky Trojans. For the teams that also would involve Underwood into a co-op agreement the name would be Central McLean Cougars. This is necessary according to NDHSAA rules that a co-op may have only one name in use.
The colors would be black and gold for the Trojans; the host school would pay all bills, receipt all revenue and provide a financial statement. They would also be responsible for hiring all coaches but both schools staff can apply for coaching positions, with the BEST QUALIFIED applicant the desired goal.
Ticket, season pass, and participation fees would be the same for both schools. Eligibility will be checked on the first day of each week and student-athletes must be passing all classes in order to be eligible to play that week.
Alcohol, drug and tobacco violations will follow the NDHSAA rules with no “guilt by association” and no “summer alcohol” policy.
Curfew will be 10 pm. on game nights; 11 p.m. on school nights; and 1 a.m. on the weekend with coaches determining the penalty if there is a curfew violation.
Each school will be responsible to get student-athletes to practices and home games. TL-M will drive to all away games and pick up McClusky participants when driving east to games.
Head coaches will be evaluated by the Athletic Director and assistant coaches by the head coach. Coaches are encouraged to attend coaching clinics in their sport.
An annual meeting is desired but no agreement as to time or number of meetings was reached; it was agreed this was not a “stickler” to reaching an agreement for a co-op.
