Local farmers honored

Roddy and Tracy Schilling were chosen as the 2021 Soil Conservation District’s Achievement Award Winners for Sheridan County. The Schillings were honored at the SCD Awards Banquet held on January 3, 2022. This award recognizes farmers and ranchers who have made an outstanding effort to conserve their valuable soil resources. The Schilling’s farm near Mercer, ND, utilizes no-till practices on a rotation of corn, wheat, and soybeans. Roddy practices integrated pest management and nutrient management across his operation.
Although Roddy and Tracy no longer have livestock, they work closely with their renters to improve the rangeland using prescribed grazing management. Congratulations Schillings on a conservation job well done! Also reported at the banquet was the annual field trip awards for area students.
