Robert Larson succeeded Robert Sorenson in the president’s position of the McClusky based North Country Bank as well as the Underwood branch.
The merger of the two Davis Bancshares Inc. banks started in 2006 when Larson stated he worked with Sorenson and found him “extremely good to work with. I learned a lot from him.” He added that the North Country Bank was fortunate to have Sorenson as a president, then added with a grin, “I now know why he has less hair than I do.”
Larson, who prefers to be called Bob, was born and raised in Bismarck, where his father Bob owned the Bismarck Lumber Company and his mother Val was a homemaker. He has three sisters and one brother.
Larson attended the then Bismarck Junior College (BJC) now Bismarck State College (BSC) and then graduated from Moorhead State University with a degree in finance and business administration in 1982. He quickly found work at the Underwood bank, also starting in 1982 and worked “every position including janitorial” in the bank. He worked there for the Kjelstrup family, he added.
While in high school, Larson was active in sports including football and wrestling but not in college. He continues to enjoy golf and hunting, along with boating and other lake activities at the family’s Brush Lake cabin. “I used to water ski,” he smiled.
He married Jan Knoll in 1981 and she has worked at various secretarial and payroll records positions including: Corps of Engineers in Riverdale, Great River Energy (GRE), MedCenter One Prairieview Nursing Home, and most recently, Cottingham Insurance in Underwood.
