By GABLE RHOADS

Kevin and Sherry Korus of Denhoff were presented a framed 16" by 20" aerial photograph of their farm and jackets at the annual Sheridan County Soil Conservation District (SCD) Achievement Awards Banquet. The banquet was held February 25 at the McClusky Elementary gym.

The Korus’ were chosen as the 2014 Soil Conservation Districts Achievement Award winner. They were also honored at the North Dakota Association of Soil Conservation Districts annual convention which was held this past November in Bismarck.

The achievement award, which is the only award of its kind in the U.S., recognizes farmers and ranchers who have made outstanding efforts to conserve and protect their soil. The award has been presented to winning conservationists since 1948.

According to a previous press release the "Korus’ utilize one-pass seeding to improve soil health. Kevin has incorporated crops such as spring and winter wheat, canola, soybeans, flax, and sunflowers into their operation. This diverse rotation has aided in crop disease control, as well as providing weed and pest control.

Kevin utilizes the CSP and EQIP programs to help improve his operation. He has a rotational cell grazing system on 1,250 acres of range land and utilizes cover crops to help keep fertilizer costs down."
