Hot lunch change supports board directives

Hot lunch change supports board directives

Lending official clout and regulations to the changes already set in motion by the McClusky School Board in last year’s menu, the more fruit and vegetable program was affirmed at the July 31 annual and monthly meetings.
In previous food programs, the school board members had directed that the fruit and vegetable snacks include both high school and elementary as well as staff. With this year’s new program requirements, a full meal will include 1/2 cup or fruit or vegetables in order to be counted as a full meal. A variety of fruits and vegetables are planned to give the students choices in which they would like to eat.
Food and calories will be based upon three different age groups: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Previously some groups were provided too much food, which led to waste. Items will often be the same, but portion size will change.
