Holens Super Valu opened as scheduled at 8:30 a.m. on March 30. The quiet Main street on this sunny Tuesday morning suddenly held a flurry of activity as shoppers scurried for a first look or a needed item from the well-stocked shelves.
The Holens, Scott and Diane, along with sister Rhonda (Holen) Boehm and mom Donna Houser, were ready and well-rehearsed for the event. Super Valu advisors Kyle Mund and Sonya Heydt were also busy in the background, getting baked and meat items ready.
With some congratulatory flowers and balloons marking their opening day, Diane stated that they thought they would hold their official Grand Opening sometime in May. “We want to offer some nice door prizes and specials for that day,” she added.
The bright and colorful interior, with a long bench for coffee drinkers and “settin’ a spell” welcomed the first customers with the smell of fresh-brewed coffee. Some sweet snacks of fresh-baked rolls were also offered on a tray in the back of the store. An early bird customer for fresh baked items needed to only follow his nose into the store to the fresh items available. He found them on the first try.
