Helm gives up post on Park Board

By ALLAN TINKER
Arlington Helm gave up his remaining duties with the Sheridan County Park board and the commissioners will try to find a replacement for him at the next regular meeting
on January 5. The special meeting on December 29 at 2 p.m. dealt with that issue as well as reviewing real estate property tax formula and information for new board member Rod Schilling. In that discussion they noted the notice requirements on tax increases, the assessment appeal process and the role of the State Board of Equalization after proper appeal to local and county boards. They also discussed the property tax rates and compliance with the taxable values set by the state and the increase or decrease those values have on the total tax due. The tax rates per acre set by the state for all agricultural land is $542.87; cropland value at $777.96; and non-cropland value at $166.13. The county is allowed a variance within 10 percent, according to County Auditor Shirley Murray. She also noted that they had not increased the taxes last year so that an increase would need to be done this year to put them in compliance. The commission also decided to wait on getting the skid steer until spring, mostly due to the weather. With two commissioners present, Chair Sandra Felchle and Rod Schilling, a hearing was held on a violation of Governor Burgum’s COVID policy order concerning open hours and occupancy for restaurants and bars.
With Sheridan County State’s Attorney Ladd Erickson on telephone for the hearing, Sheriff Trent Naser and Deputy Delbert Hoffman were also present. In question was
the ReUnion Bar open after 10 p.m. with one warning given and a citation given on the second.
