With rumors of tornados spotted among the storms in the Mercer area and photographed in the Pickardville locale, Ron Schatz of Mercer was happy they skipped Mercer. He noted the storms seemed to gather strength as they cleared the Prophets Mountains, on Sunday, August 25. “Then they broke loose. One guy here said we only got some pea-sized hail.”
On the east side of the mountains, after the storms passed through, Jess Boehm reported she hadn’t seen the fields yet, but a mile east of their (husband Levi) house, the hail had been “fist-sized and mostly crops were damaged. Some of the machinery is quite a distance from the farmstead and might not get checked for a few days.”
