On June 3 of 1965, we moved our cattle from our home pasture to west of our farm by Arnold Berreth’s.
Later two cows wouldn’t stay over there with the rest of the herd. They were looking for their babies, so we knew they weren’t with the other cattle.
Clifford found one of the two calves down the pasture and caught it, but the other one ran away. So Clifford, Clifton and Gracie go after it in Grandpa Emil Kahler’s red pickup. They took four year old Gracie along, and even though it was June, she wanted to wear her little red hooded jacket.
The calf ran into Sam and Delbert Laschkewitsch’s pasture, so Clifford and Clifton went after it on foot. Gracie was suppose to have stayed and waited in the pickup. Later she said there was lightning, so she got out of the pickup and headed home. The calf was caught at Laschkewitsch’s. Clifford had sent Clifton back to the pickup to be with Gracie.
