Goodrich Veteran's Brunch sees good turn out
Goodrich American Legion Albert Block Post #56 held its annual pancake and sausage brunch along with program and flag ceremony on Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans Day.
Approximately 96 people showed up for the brunch at the Legion hall. Jim Paulus said that was the best turn-out they ever had.
After the brunch, there was a Veterans Day program. Commander Kenneth "Butch" Konschak welcomed everyone to the program and with the audience recited the "Pledge of Allegiance."
Chaplain Myron Berg gave the invocation. Special music was provided by a Goodrich female group including Maria Steichen, Nini Steichen, Mary Anderson, Brooke Steichen, Baylee Smith and Isis Smith. The song was called "American Tears."
A pause to remember the veterans followed.
Commander Konschak then read poems about veterans.
A flag burning ceremony was held in the misty weather of the day. There were many retired flags, some of which had been saved for years before the Wednesday ceremony.
