Goodrich American Legion celebrates 97 years
By Sandy Blanes
Albert Block Post # 56 invited the public to attend the "97th" birthday party for the Goodrich American Legion on March 15, 2016. The event was held at the Goodrich School where five Patriot Guards of Bismarck honored the members and veterans in the audience with commemorative coins that represented the era for service rendered to the United States.
The colors were presented by Legion Members, Don Hagen, Tom Sauter, Wellborn Majors and Milton Helm with a welcome from Commander Ken Konschak to all. The Goodrich Public School students sang several songs with their music/math teacher, LaDonna Erdmann. All stood at attention as the students sang "The Star Spangled Banner" and led in the pledge to the flag, followed by Chaplain Myron Berg giving the invocation.
The birthday message for the 97-year-old post given by Commander Konschak, included statistics and a special thank you to Vietnam veterans who did not receive a hero’s welcome home as had many other veterans. Commander Konschak spoke especially for the Vietnam era veterans at Post # 56 when he said that they had no regrets in serving their country.
