Good side of snow is still snow
By ALLAN TINKER
History reveals weather patterns that affected and continue to affect area residents. With the blessing of frozen water that will melt and fill ditches, sloughs, potholes and,
eventually, water where we cannot see it, brings shoveling, skid-steer snow removal, and big machines on roads and streets around not only our area, but across areas that
seldom deal with the same major weather challenges. Snow is forecasted to appear Monday, January 31, across North Dakota. This is where it becomes a personal issue for
cities, counties, and our state. With forage supplies low from the lack of moisture in the past growing season, difficulty moving hay and straw affects farmers and ranchers to
a critical point. Looking back over the yesteryear history in newspapers, we are reminded it could be worse, and it could be better. Preparation holds the key to the stories of recovery.
The past few days of sunshine also brought icy patches and hard, crusted snowbanks.
