From student to teacher and a life spent learning

When you add it all up, the 38 years of teaching, the years before in school: elementary, secondary, college, this middle sister of three siblings seems hardly old enough to have crammed it all into her life, thus far. Roberta Hunt spent 30 of those years teaching Title I classes in McClusky.
Before that Hunt taught five years as LD (Learning Disabilities) teacher for the Goodrich and McClusky Schools. She had also taught one year in Hurdsfield, first and second grade; and her very first teaching years were third grade in Turtle Mountain Elementary in Belcourt.
She recalls that her favorite part of teaching was getting the students to really enjoy reading. “When they sit down and pick up a book and enjoy a story for the pleasure of reading,” she explained. She also recalled the novels and the projects that they did with them. She was the organizer of reading month and the person to organize and do activities. “Former students still remember and recall the activities. One of these was always about Sakakawea, pemmican making and many other fascinating tasks. “I have nice letters and notes from students about these things,” she smiled.
