From fundraiser salads to free workshops

By ALLAN TINKER

The busy, always busy, Turtle Lake Hospital Auxiliary held its annual Salad Luncheon fundraiser on May 1 in the Turtle Lake-Mercer School gymnasium.

Chairperson Rhonda Stradinger stated they had over 40 salads donated by Auxiliary members, CHI-Community Memorial hospital staff and extra help from the surrounding communities and kitchen volunteers. The "very successful" event: served approximately 200 people. The funds go to support hospital and patient service projects.

As an added community service, the Auxiliary is sponsoring an "Are You Aware?" free workshop on June 13, at the Senior Citizens Center in Turtle Lake. The individual sessions include all about pre-planning your end of life, addressing personal safety, health and fitness issues. It will also include information on how to handle and dispose of medications.

Stradinger stated that they have three presenters coming in for the afternoon and invite the public to attend these informative sessions.

Nathan Grubb of Goetz Funeral Home will present "Preplanning your funeral". CHI-Community Memorial Hospital Physical Therapist Trista Rust will present "Just Keep Moving," and Lt. Rick Richards/McLean County Sheriff’s Department will present "Personal Safety Do’s and Don’ts," including information on scams.
