Farmers Market crew gathers info Red wigglers workhorses

McClusky Farmers Market members, with Linda Bowers leading the excursion, ventured to the Podoll gardens near Fullerton, ND, for a lesson in no-till, compost, and mulching for gardening in an organic mode. What they learned was amazing in its simplicity, respect for the environment, and positive attitudes towards what are often seen as negatives in gardening.
“When you try a new thing, such as a plant variety, and only one plant survives,” Podoll explained. “That is not a failure. That one plant is a lesson in survival and an example from which to learn something. You decide what it is to be.”
An example would be Podoll’s tomato adventure. According to information from Mother Earth News, “Podoll of Prairie Road Organic Farm in Fullerton, North Dakota, had grown seeds of ‘Crimson Sprinter,’ a slicing tomato well-adapted to his short Northern Plains summers, for a number of years.
