Farm tour offers information on GAP future

McClusky produce farmer Eden McLeod hosted a farm tour on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 1-5 p.m. co-sponsored by FARRMS and Entrepreneurial Center for Horticulture at Dakota College in Bottineau. The event was held six miles north and six miles west of McClusky.
Speakers and other professionals included FARRMS Executive Director Annie Carlson, Sue Balcom, FAARMS Farm to School program lead, Keith Knudson from the Entrepreneurial Center for Horticulture, Producer Eden McLeod, Gail Slinde from Minot Extension a teacher of preservation and food safety, and Julie Wagendorf, a farmer and representative of ND State Dept. of Health Food and Lodging Division.
Interesting discussions centered around the regulations that are working towards preparing growers for the inevitable requirements of the GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) program and the certification producers will need to sell to different school and other food programs.
