First District Health Unit and SCiPY (Sheridan County in Partnership with Youth) sponsored a babysitting class on May 28th at the Sheridan County Courthouse. Eleven area youth received babysitting certificates after attending the four-hour event. First District Health Unit nurses Sandra Birst (McLean County) and Sue Ebach (Sheridan County) presented information on caring for infants, toddlers, pre-school and school-age children. Wayne Houston from the McClusky Ambulance Service taught first aid and emergency care; Jim Pellman represented the McClusky Fire Department and lectured on fire safety; Crystal Schaunaman, Sheridan County Extension Agent taught kitchen and food safety; and Deputy Delbert Hoffmann, Sheridan County Sheriff’s Department, informed the participants of both indoor and outdoor hazards. Dinner was served by SCiPY, followed by situation games, evaluations and door prizes. Anyone looking for babysitters now has eleven eager young persons to call.
