Elementary Concert raps success

With a rap, rap here and rap, rap there, the McClusky Elementary School’s spring concert entertained with old favorites, new styles, and a nostalgic mix of “Piney Mountain Home” and “Home on the Range.”
With fifth and sixth grades’ respective presentations of the “Camptown Races” and “Turkish March,” the program continued into seven scenes involving leaving the rural area of “wide open spaces” to return to civilization only to find that the rural areas have something to offer as well.
All is well that ends well, and this musical playlet included a precision cup game of rhythm skills likely not soon topped by any other performance. The cups moved from one end of the table, one at a time, with a few ending up tossed to the audience’s direction as the performance ended.
“Chicken Rap,” and “Tinga-layo” were also presented, among others, with recorders, voice choirs and an excellent narrator (Michael Wolt) handling the scene changes for the play. A little dance here and there, with some body actions, helped the celebration mood of spring.
